Background

Where the project began

Maya POS serves busy retail and F&B counters where every second of hesitation costs a queue. The product already had feature depth, but the UI felt like a toolkit dump. Dawn was brought in to redesign the cashier surface and establish a design system that could grow into inventory and reporting without becoming noisy.

The problem

What we set out to solve

Cashiers hunted for common actions. Error states were cryptic. Training new staff took too long because the interface rewarded memory over clarity. Leadership wanted a modern look — but more importantly, a system that would not collapse under real rush-hour load.

Approach

How we moved

We shadowed cashiers, timed key tasks, and rebuilt the primary layout around the top five actions. Dense data stayed reachable; decorative chrome was removed. A component library with clear empty, loading, and failure states became the backbone for both tablet POS and back-office views.
